Drama Group. The play, “Quiet Week-End,’’ was read by members of the Taihape Drama Group on Tuesday evening. Supper was served at the conclusion of the play reading. The opportunity was take n to farewell the secretary, Miss June Lewis, who is leaving shortly to reside in Marton. In presenting Miss Lewis with a book on behalf of the group, Mrs. H.... McLachlan, president, paid a high tribute to the services rendered by the secretary and thanked her for all that she had done in the interests of drama. Miss Lewis said she regretted that circumstances made it necessary for her to sever her connection with the Drama Group after such a pleasant association with its members. Miss Nancy Gibbs was elected secretary in place of Miss Lewis, with Miss Dawn Barwood assistant secretary. Youth Club Social. A combined Youth Club social was held recently and proved enjoyable. The time was spent playing games, interspersed with items and other diversions. The patron, Mr. D. G. Gordon, and president, Mr. C. E Darvill, were among those present and also the Rev. E. T. Allowed Five ; Minutes “on the Air.” Advice from the Publicity Committee of the Wanganui R.S.A. that It was allowed five minutes “on the air’’ each Monday at 7.30 n.m. and would he pleased to offer facilities to the Taihape branch for broadcasting purposes, was received by the Taihape R S.A . at its monthly meeting on Tuesday. The Taihane R S.A. passed a resolution o n Tuesday evening protesting against the payment of taxation by I members of K Force. The meeting was of the oninion that volunteers who were nrenared to risk their lives in Korea should not be subject to taxation o' anv kind. The motion was moved bv Mr. Robertson, seconded by Mr. Stoneman and carried unanimously. The matter of a farewell to local members of K Force was held over till the next meeting. B°‘iketball Match Cancelled. The basketball match between Taihane and Wanganui, which v/as to have been plaved at Wanganui next °aturday. has been cancelled because Taihane is unable to fMd a team, only six players available. The Taihape R.S.A decided in Tuesday evening to sunport a scheme for the establishment of s«x or e!"ht homes throughout New Zealand for veteran ex-serviceme n canable of accommodating 30 to -*0 nersons, rather than sunport an alternative scheme providing for fewer but larger buildings. It is estimated that th° smaller homes wi’l cost £20.000 to £30.000. G?is Sold. The Taihane Roroimh Council’s gas plant at the nower hnuse has bee*’ sold to n local firm and is at dismantled.
