Dr. w. A. Priest was elected president of ihe Wanganui Cricket Club at the annual meeting last night. Dr. J. C. Baird, of Dargaville, has been appointed medical superintendent of the Kaitaia Hospital in place of Dr. M. W. Falloon, who has resigned to further his studies in England. Mr. C. L. Grange has resigned from the position o' acting-secretary of the Northland Hospital Board. He will be succeeded by the board’s chief clerk, Mr. A. Wilson. Brigadier A. E. Brown, SecretaryGenera) of the Imperial War Graves Commission, will return to Australia by air today. Brigadier Brown has been visiting New Zealand at the invitation of the Government. Mr. H. J. Marriner, who died at Chris! church recently, was well known for his interest in local body affairs. He had lived at Sumner for 44 years and mas Mayor of Sumner from 1910 to 1912. Mr. Marriner was presii dent of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce from 190 S to 1910 and was elected an honorary life member in 1939. Mr. C. R. Keeble, of P.emuera, formerly deputy-registrar of deeds and examiner of titles at the Lands and Deeds Department, Auckland, died on Saturday, aged 73. His father, Mr. George Keeble, was manager of the Union Company at. Nelson, Mr. Charles Keeble was born at Nelson and was educated at the Bishop’s School. Dr. Anthony James has been appointed head of the Neurosurgical Department at the Dunedin Public Hospital, replacing Dr. Murray A. Falconer, who has accepted an appointment in London. An Australian by birth, Dr. James was educated at Melbourne Grammar School and Mel bourne University. He completed his medical course in 1938 after doing post-graduate work. For about eight months when Dr. Falconer returned he stayed on in Dunedin, continuing to act as Dr. Falconer’s deputy, and has now succeeded to the post vacated by his former chief.—(P.A.). Mr. J. N. Greenland, managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company, will retire at the end of the month. The company announced yesterday that his place had been taken by Mr. M. B. Miller, the present general manager. The following important staff changes will also be effective from October 1: Mr. H. H. Dobie, assistant general manager, will become general manager; Mr. A. N. Leslie, assistant general manager, will become deputy-general manager, and Mr. F. K. Macfarlane, comptroller of accounts, will become assistant general manager.
