R.S.A. “NEWS NATTER” BY “THE THREE WALLADS” Greetings, Digs! The inclement weather that we have been experiencing lately has not in any way interfered with the activities of the branch, but then, most of these activities are of an indoor nature. Now to concentrate on these reports that have reached us by devious channels. Innovation. Dave Lind was talking about the formation of a summefeAable tennil club, and mentioned that the prospect:; were very good. Some of Wanganui's leading players are taking an active part and a meeting is to be held shortly to get this activity under way. We hope that this effort will meet with the success that it deserves—the more active (and energetic) members will have a summer recreation that will be of benefit to themselves and the R.S.A. Play Readings Those members of the R.S.A. Little Theatre who attended the R.S.A. Halt recently thoroughly enjoyed the reading of "Dear Brutus,” a phantasy by J. M. Barrie. Those who took part were: "Mrs Coade, ’ Mrs G. Rowe; “Joanna," Mrs S. McClisky; "Mabel,” Miss E. "Mrs Dearth,” Miss M. Merewether; "Caroline,” Miss P. Healy; "Margaret,” Miss P. Richardson; “Mr Dearth,” Mr E. O’Keeffe; “Mr Purdie,” Mr R. Bauld; "Matey,” Mr S. Gay; “Lob,” Mr R. R. Young; “Mr Coade,” Mr H. A. Donaldson. Congratulations to Mrs K. Gay, who was responsible for the firtt presentation. Incidentally, the major production of the Little Theatre is due to appear at the Opera House on September 12 and 13. One of the Wallahs who attended the final rehearsals voted it “a scintillating comedy, packed with witty dialogue.” Well, it ran for over two years in London, so it must be good. B.S.A. Miniature Rifle Club Owen Warnock topped the score at the last shoot with 98.4, W. H. Fowler very, very close behind with 98.3. Good shooting, Herb, and congratulations. The next in line was Rex Wells with 97; good show, Rex —it is the first time that we have been able <o pass on our congratulations to you. Keep it up. The R.S.A. M.R.C. had quite a good representation in the Town v. Country teams match that took place on Monday night. No scores are available yet, but we can guess that as usual they put on a good show. On The Air. Last Monday night a new service to returned servicemen and women was inaugurated. This service is known as "Digger Reports” by "the Sergeant,” and will be heard from the local station each Monday night at 7.30. Sub and country branches of the R.S.A. are reminded that this new service is for their benefit just as much as for the Wanganui R.S.A. and are invited to send any announcements of reunions, etc., that they wish Vo have put over the air, to the Wanganui R.S.A. Bowling Club The final card evening for this winter was held on August 29. Not many details are available, but we know that Chris Aitken and Harry Denne were sitting at the winning table, while booby prizes went to Peter Swan and his wife and also to Miss Ashworth. The players were really regretful that this was the end of so many nights of good fun, and ar* looking forward to the rerommencement next winter. P.O.W. Association The P.O.W. Association in Wanganui is holding its Aid for Crete campaign on the 18th to 25th of this month. The other branches of the association have already (in most cases) held their drives, and some very fine efforts have been recorded; but the Wanganui branch is sure that its campaign will equal if not better those of other centres. Well, digs, those are all the reports and “natterings” to hand for this week, so in the words of the classics, “You've had it, dig,” and we'll close until next week with our usual weekly wisecrack: "It may be true that most people can'C stand prosperity—but it's also true that most people don’t have to!”
