STRONG RANGITIKEI RUGBY TEAM TO PLAY WANGANUI
A strong team has been selected to represent Rangitikei in the Rugby match against Wanganui at Marton on Saturday. With the exception of H. Rowley, the 1949 All Black, who is not available, the team contains the best available talent in the district, including five members who are at present on tour with the Wanganui team on the East Coast. Although the Wanganui team has not yet been announced, the Rangitikei selectors have been in communication with Mr. S. Ambrose, the selector, who advises that Wanganui will not be fielding a second-grade team. Hence the reason for the inclusion of Pull, Goldsmith, Oldfield, Gibbs and Morrison in the Rangitikei side. The Kingi brothers have made such a success of the five-eighths position during the last two games that this combination has been retained. D. Kingi came into the team when K. Graham injured a leg three weeks ago. The Rangitikei team to play Wanganui was announced last night as follows: Full-back: G. Pull (Athletic). Three - quarters: T. Goldsmith (O.B.), J. McNab (Hunt.), D. Westwood (Bulls). Five-eighths: D. Kingi (Rata), 2nd., W. Kingi (Rata). Half: M. Owens (Athletic). Back of Scrum: T. Oldfield (Athletic). Middle Row: B. Gibbs (Rata), D. Morrison (O.B.), R. Fittler (O.B.), D. Stewart (O.B.) Front Row: F. Wasson (Athletic), W. Tocker, capt. (Athletic), W. Crocker (Bulls). Reserves: J. Hallwood (Hunt.), I. Barton (O.B.), backs; P. Wigglesworth (Athletic), P. Lovelock (OB.) The team is to assemble at the Marton Hotel at 2 p.m. The manager is Mr. A. Henwood.
