Pacific Pact Would Take Longer To Create Than The Atlantic Pact

LONDON, Sept. 2 (Recd. 6 p.m.).— Countries in the Pacific Ocean region could combine in resistance to aggression without necessarily signing a Pacific Pact, said the British Commonwealth Relations Secretary, Mr. Gordon Walker, today, according to Reuter’s Bombay correspondent. Mr. Walker added that a Pacific Defence Pact on the pattern of the Atlantic Pact would take a longer time to build up, in view of the complicated pattern of Asian countries.

“The Atlantic countries are established nations; on the other hand Asian countries are just becoming nations, and have yet to settle down,” he said.
