Master Ted Retires From Racing

As he broke down in training last week Mastei' Ted is to be retired from racing. Owned in partnership by Messrs. I. McGuire and J. NcNeill, Master Ted was a good performer in soft ground on the flat before being put to hurdling early in the 1943-49 season. Altogether he contested 95 races for 11 firsts, 14 seconds and 11 thirds and £6390 in stakes. At his first start Master Ted deaflIteatcd for first with Martial Note in the Debutant Two-Year-Old Stakes at the Wanganui Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting at Marton on September 11, 1943. He gained four seconds in nine subsequent starts as a two-year-old. His most important success was in the Jellicoe Handicap at Ellerslie in 1947, when he narrowly defeated Tiger Tan Royal Charter. He was twice sqp-i-rssful over hurdles during the 1943-49 season and also finished third to Kauri Pine and Our Gold in the Great No: them Hurdles in 1949.
