BULLS NEWS

WAR MEMORIAL PROJECT. BULLS, Last Night (OC).—The meeting called by the chairman of the Bulls Town Board to consider the form the District War Memorial should take was poorly attended. In his opening remarks, Mr. Mackay expressed his personal regret that the attendance was not representative of the district. Of the 17 others present, only Mr. K. V/. Dalrymple represented the farmers in the Rangitoto Riding, while the Geatford area had two present: Messrs. L. Nicholls and G. Sutton. The business men of the town were conspicuous by their absence and were represented by Mr. Pennington, who attended on behalf of the school committee. The others in attendance were members of the Returned Servicmen’s Association. Mr. Mackay statd that the Internal Affairs Department apparently intend, ed to get the question of War Memorials finalised at an early date for he had noticed in the newspapers that quite a number of towns were now moving in this direction. The Government had set a deadline for the receipt of applications for subsidy on subscriptions for War Memorials, and now there was only four weeks left to make a decision as to the form ot memorial and to supply sketch plans and estimates of costs. He also mentioned that subscriptions must be collected by March 1953, otherwise the subsidy would not be available. During the course of a brief discussion several sugestions were made includingg a grandstand at the domain, a rose garden, swimming baths and attention to the present rose garden. The meeting was adjourned until September 7 when it is hoped to have a more representative attendance.
