OBITUARY

Dr. S. L. Harke Dr. S. L. Harke, formerly a medical practitioner at Onehunga and Auckland port health officer, has died at South Perth, Western Australia. A graduate of Cambridge and of St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London, Dr. Harke held high academic qualifications, including the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeon?, Edinburgh. Coming to New Zealand from England in 1908, Dr. Harke began practice at Onehunga. Her served tyith the Royal Navy during the First World War and on his return from overseas about 1921, resumed his medical work at Onehunga. After a period as port health officer at Auckland, he resigned in 1929 to take up research work in England. In the following year he went tp South Perth and for some years he was on the staff pf the Public Health Department. Dr. Harke is survived by his wife and two children.

Rev. Father M. J. O’Carroll

The Rev. Father Michael Joseph O’Carroll, a former Auckland priest, has died in Dublin, Ireland. Bom in Dublin in 1895, he was educated at Mungret and All Hallows Colleges, Dublin, was ordained in 1925, and came to Auckland in the same year. He served in the parishes of Remuera, the Cathedral, Ponsonby, Helensville, Cambridge and Puhoi. He was a chaplain to St. Joseph’s Home for Old People, and also served in the dioceses of Maitland and Melbourne, Australal. His last charge was at Manurewa, from where he resigned because of Illhealth in May of this year. He left to live in Ireland in the same month.
