VACANT HOUSE FAILS TO ATTRACT ONE BID AT MARTON AUCTION
MARTON, Last Nimit (OC).—The housing shortage in ...arton is apparently not as acute as home seekers make out. A seven-room, ajl-electric hoqse within JOO yards of the Marton Post Office failed to attract even one bid when offered for sale at public auction this afternoon. Immediate possession within 14 days was guaranteed. About 50 people attended the auction. The house, which was being sold on behalf of the estate of the late Mr. George Avery, was first offered fully furnished, but this attracted only one bid of £l7OO, which was below the reserve price.
The auctioneer, Mr. W. Bott, then put up the house unfurqished, but the response was even worsg. Not one bid was received and the house was passed in.
Tile house wihich is about 50 years old, is situated on one of Marton’s sunniest sites, the cprner of Follett and Stewart Streets. It contains four bedrooms. There is also a garage. The section is laid out with concrete paths, lawns and gardens and there are also a number of fruit trees.
A substantial offer was later made privately lor pie house, fully furnished.
