Investiture Ceremony At Government House

Eight women were honoured at an investiture at Government House, Wellington, on Thursday, by the Gov-ernor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg. Two of them, Miss Mary Lambie, Wellington, and Miss Ida Willis, Raumati South, have in recent years received other decorations. Miss Lambie, 0.8. E., who retired last year from the .post of Director of Nursing, was invested with the Order of the British Empire. Miss Ida Willis, O 8.E., Matron-in-Chief of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service, received the Efficiency Decoration awarded for long service in the New Zealand military forces. She is the first woman in this country to be so honoured. Miss Margaret Miller, of the Nelson district, was invested with the M.B.E. This 80-year-old nurse still does hours of welfare work on most days and walks from six to seven miles doing it. Miss Irene Brown, Hastings, lor her long service as obstetrical nurse, received the M.B.E. Miss Elsie Mitchell, Lower Hutt, an active Red Cross worker, also received tlie M.B.E. Miss Winifred Dive, Wellington, welfare worker for women and children, and Miss Edna Scott, Upper Hutt, who has given long and valuable service to the Free Kindergarten and was the first kindergarten teacher, were invested witli the M.B.E. Miss Ella Butler, Khandailah, received tlie Imperial Ser- . Ice-Medal.

Lady Fryberg wore a smoke blue cire satin frock with matching toque anti pearl necklace.
