Town Of Mangakino May Be Returned To Maoris Some Day
WELLINGTON, Yesterday (PA)— In the House of Representatives today Mr. H. Johnstone (Govt., Raglan ( gave notice to ask the Minister in Charge of the State Hydro Department to inform the House if it was a fact that the State does not possess the freehold title of the land on which the modern town of Mangakino has been built, at a cost of about f1,000,000.
He asked if the Labour Government had entered into an agreement to return the land, with buildings thereon, to the Maoris in about 20 years’ time.
