AWAPUNI COURSE WAS HEAVY FOR YESTERDAY’S FINAL TRACK GALLOPS
PALMERSTON N., Last Night (Sp) —Continuous rain fell during last night and 'the course was heavy for the final gallops of horses engaged at Wanganui. The trestles were wide out on the course proper, and although times were slow the majority of the horses worked well.
My Beau fW. J. Broughton) and Kippo (G. R. Tattersail) worked smoothly over a mile in 2.2, the last five being run in 1.15. They are in good order for Wanganui, where Broughton will ride My Beau and Kippo by J. P. Bowness. Lord Cranleigh (R. D. Samson) and Night Charm (J. G. Dulieu) took 2.4 for the mile, the last three in 46.
Night Valour (D. Harris) and Follow Suit (J. Hely) registered 1.42 3-5 for seven furlongs, the last five taking 1.15 3-5.
Myfox (J. Carter) and Nicene (Tattersall) took 1.46 2-5 for seven furlongs, the last three taking 47 2-5. Faster time was recorded by Double Scholar (Tattersail) and Luxury Liner (J. Shaw), who were clocked home over the last three in 45 to take 1.43 for their seven furlongs.
Merripay (V. J. Sellars) and Dandy Ninth (L. Hodren) worked well over seven, coming home from the six in 1.26.
Hutton (R. D. Samson) and Garno (J. G. Dulieu) took 1.28 1-5 for six furlongs from the barrier, La Modelie (Tattersall) taking 1.30 4-5 for a similar task but doing it nicely. Angell (W. L. Aitken) and Sayani (Tattersall) took 1.11 for five furlongs, and Coppelia (Broughton), Confetti (Hodren) and The Robe (A. Temperton) were associated in a similar task in 1.13.
A Guineas candidate in Felicitous (R. Dulieu) was partnered with Hunting Fort (B. Wood) over five furlongs from the seven-furlong barrier to the two furlongs, where the going was better, taking 1.10 for their task, with the first half-mile left behind in 55 1-5. Ngarobi (R. Dulieu) and Kelos (K. Dulieu) went over the same ground in 1.10, the first four taking 56. Britovite (Broughton) and Gay Nina (Wood) took 1.12 2-5 over a similar five furlongs, running home nicely over the last three in 44 2-5.
Zealander, with S. A. Waddell in the saddle, worked well once round, and Clever Boy (Tattersall) travelled fast over three furlongs in 42.
