No Exhibition For Christchurch Centennial
WELLINGTON, Yesterday (PA).— Because of the disturbed international situation the Government has reluct-J antly decided for the present, that ill could not support a proposal to hold a large exhibition in Christchurch in 1953. This was announced by the Prime Minister, Mr Holland, today. Mr Holland said that the Government, recognising he important Canterbury centennial, had been willing to make a very large contribution toward financing the proposed exhibition. but unfortunately it will now become necessary io re-examine the whole question in lhe light of the pre-] sent world situation. “After very careful consideration the Government, has been forced to the conclusion that it is inopportune al present to proceed with the preparation and organisation of such a large project, in view of the considerable material requirements involved, j said Mr Holland.
