DAIRY PRODUCE SALES LAST YEAR TOTALLED OVER 52 MILLIONS
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA)— Giving figures of the dairy produce increase, Mr Marshall told the Dairy Board conference 'that New Zealand exports of dairy produce in the 1949-50 season ended on July 31 realised £52,750,000. The exports for the season were 143,000 tons of butter, 98,000 tons of cheese, 24,000 tons of processed mijk, and 3000 tons of casein. Sales outside Britain were spread over 40 countries. These sales brought £533.000 more than the equivalent of the United Kingdom price and earned 3,750,000 dollars plus some other hard currency.
The accounts for the 1949-50 season were not yet complete, bu't the estimates in round figures were: Surplus from sales to Great Britain, £2,450.000: "to outside countries, £650,000; interest on investments, £320,000; to'tal, £3,420,000. From this figure had to be subtracted about £175,000 for subsidies on fertiliser and lime cartage, £lOO,OOO for advertising, storage and administration. Thte 'accumulated reserve brought forward was £15,331,000, so the estimated balance at July 31 was £18,476,000.
