RESERVE BANK
The Reserve Bank statement for the week ended August 23 shows that sterling exchange held by the bank at that date amounted to £56,253,487, compared with £57,413,574 seven days previously. The note issue amounted to £54,627,200 compared with £54.321,364. The assets and liabilities of the bank as at August 23, with the weekly average of 1939 and 1949, were as follows:
