Rangitikei Sub-Union Rugby Reps Defeat Manawatu Colts

PALMERSTON N„ Last Night (Special). Rangitikei Sub-Unicn Rugby representatives beat Manawatu colts in a fast open Rugby match played at Feilding on Saturdav, the score being 16 to 14. The visitors faced the sun for the ; first spell and from the kick-off put; on the pace. This early score was followed by a converted try initiated by the fast-striding McNab, of Rata, an inside back of quality. Rangitikei were holding the advantage. Manawatu now began to combine to meet the swift-moving visitors and produced penetration as the backs settled down tq the challenge. The steadily-advancing invaders had to suffer several setbacks before Townsend went through for a nice try which White converted. Rangitikei swept up the field in a bright attack which was turned nicely by the Manawatu forwards, who brought the play to the visitors’ 25. Here from a set scrum the backs staged a thrust which was halted on the corner flag. The line-out was won by Manawatu, and the half sent the ball out through the backs to Pike, whose speed brought a nice try. The kick missed and the score at the interval was 8 all. Manawatu took the lead soon after resuming, when Pike staged a bright try. The winger received possession and, brushing off opposition, crossed the line to score near the uprights. The kick missed. The Rangtikei forwards then took charge and in a strong bid W. Crocker scored wide out to equalise at 11 all. Both sides were maintaining a hot pace. In loose play in mid-field McNab picked up and went off swiftly to beat every effort to overtake him and scored easily. Kilpatrick converted. Just before the final whistle, with Manawatu on the attack, Rangitikei infringed to see White kick a nice penalty. Mr. D. Thompson was the referee.
