DRAMATIC SEARCH BY LAND, SEA AND AIR FOR BORSTAL ESCAPEES

INVERCARGILL, Last Night (PA). —Pursuit and search by sea, land and air so far has failed to result in the capture of two youths who escaped from the Invercargill Borstal Institution on Friday night. The youths, who are believed to be marooned on Mason’s Island, off Stewart Island, Ijave left a trail of theft and alarm, but little damage in their wake. They are believed to have in their possession rifles and ammunition which they took from fishing boats in Bluff harbour and from the launch Helga, which they sailed from Bluff to Stewart Island.

Dramatic chases by other fishing boats form part of the adventure, and two fishing beats anchored nearer land may be in danger from attack by the youths. sßoats are unable to leave because of storms and high seas. The boys are aged 15 and 17.
