UNITED NATIONS TROOPS LAND ON TOKCHOK ISLAND

TOKIO. Aug. 19 (Recd. 6 p.m.)— United Nations troons today landed on th? island of Tokchok, commanding approaches to the vital Communis! sunply nort of Inchon, 20 miles west of Seoul. The landin ' was covered by United Nat'ons warsh’ps. No Comrfiunist opposition was reported. Southerners pushed inland and occunied the vflage of Chinni. Tokchok Island could have great value to the Allies as a marine observation port and possibly might be used as a forward air base. As American air strikes have made land travel hazardous for the Reds, they have turned increas’ngly to the sea and made repeated attempts to slin material and men down the west coast in junks and small craft. Tokchok would be a natural stopping noint for such traffic, which must hide in the daytime from Allied sea and air patrols.
