Miss Mary Samson left Wanganui on Saturday for Christchurch, where she will stay for the Canterbury Centennial celebrations.
Ban On Celluloid Toys Demanded. A ban on toys made of celluloid is demanded by mothers all over Britain. Numerous letters sent in to the authorities have given details of accidents from these inflammable toys, and a fire brigade in one of the large cities wrote to a firm of celluloid toy manufacturers following a serious accident. It was stated that a celluloid doll four or five feet from a fire suddenly burst into flames. Infants sitting near a fire (protected with a fireguard) have had their rattles burnt, while a spark from a Are fell on a doll and in less than a second the doll’s head had disappeared in flames. In 193 S a department committee appointed by the Home Secretary recommended that all toys and toilet articles of celluloid should, on sale, be clearly marked “celluloid." Manufacturers do not admit the dangerous properties of their boys.
