B.M. Silk Shines In Wanganui Golf Club’s Final Qualifying Round
The third and final qualifying round for the Wanganui Golf Club’s championships was played at Belmont links at the week-end, a feature of the scoring being a 69 by B. M. Silk, who is playing excellent golf at present, and a 73 by T. Casey. The following qualified in the respective championships, the best two out of the three rounds scoring:— Senior: B. M. The captain’s prize for the best two nett rounds during the qualifying rounds was won by K. H. Gibbons, with a score of 65, 68—133, from P. A. London, 68, 67—135, and P. R. Williamson. 65, 71—136. These three players are ail scoring well at present and have had their handicaps reduced by as much as four strokes during the course of the qualifying rounds.
The Powdrell Cup for the best gross score over the three qualifying rounds was retained by B. M. Silk with a record-breaking score over three rounds of 210. this being five strokes better than his previous best for this cup. Silk's scores were 69, 72, 69—210. The next best were T. Casey. with 77, 74, 73—224, M. J. Thornton 75 , 77, 74—226, and J. F. Collins 76. 74, 77—227.
