H. HOPPER WINS INDIVIDUAL BRAMWELL HARRIER TITLE
Wanganui harriers held their annual teams’ race for the Bramwell Shield on Saturday, in conjunction with their silver jubilee celebrations Thirty-one harriers took part in the race, in anything but pleasant weather.
H. Hopper was the winner of the in. dividual honours, finishing 21 seconds ahead of J. Burnett, whose team it Was that vzon the shield. The winning team comprised Burnett (captain), K Belfit, R. McDonald, J. Morrison and R. Pearson.
The winning team scored 41 points C. Guy’s team, which finished second netted 44 points and H. Hopper’s team the next home 49. The other three teams finished in the following order: A. Hcskins, W. Twogod, H. Walker. Leaving the racecourse on the outward journey Hopper, Burnett and Guy were together, closely followed by Just, Hoskins, Locke and Rusden. Top. ping the fence at the end of Springvale Road, Burnett took the lead, but Hopper overhauled him on the first hill into the course proper. At this stage Guy, Locke. Hoskins and Just were bunched, as they were to stay until passing the Mosstown church. About there, Twogood moved in front of Locke, who was hotly pursued by Just, Rusden, Greig and Walker. Weller, McDouald and Belfit were putting in good work at this stage, as was Goodie who had improved his position from the back of the field to 20th. He improved even more before the enc of the race, finishing 17th.
