DIRECT MILITARY AID IN KOREA UNPRACTICAL, SAYS SOUTH AFRICA

LONDON, July 20.—The South African Cabinet decided at a special meeting late today that it would be “unpractical and unrealistic” for the Union to give direct military assistance in Korea, says Reuter’s Pretoria correspondent. The Greek Foreign Ministry has notified the Secretary-General of the United Nations that Greece will contribute six transport planes for the fighting in Korea. Mr. Romulo published the text of a telegram to Mr. Trygve Lie which also indicated that the Philippine Government will b-' unable to send any detachment of the armed forces, but has acceded to petitions by veterans and former guerrillas for permission to fight on behalf of the United Nations. The Australian Minister of External Affairs, Mr. Spender, has announced that the Australian Government has already taken action to apply an embargo on exports to North Korea.
