SYDNEY SEAMEN TO TRY AND DISLODGE REDS

SYDNEY, July 19 (Recd. 6 p.m.)— The next move by the moderates in the Sydney branch of the Seamen’s Union will be an attempt on Tuesday to depose their Communist leaders. A moderate spokesman, Mr. A. J. Stone, said today: “The Reds owe allegiance to another country. Every man is entitled to his politics and religion, but when he tries to sell his country that is the finish. If Russia had been on our side in Korea I’ll bet all this trouble would never have happened.” It the Communist union leaders refuse to accept a no-confidence motion, the moderates are prepared to take the case to the Industrial Registrar, who has power to order a union ballot. Meanwhile, members of the Federal Executive, including the secretary, Mr E. V. Elliott, have refused to comment on the results of yesterday’s meetings, or on a statement by the Brisbane secretary, Mr. J. Connor, that the ban on the shipment of war materials to Korea has been lifted.
