WANGANUI EXHIBITORS DOWELL AT THE TARANAKI WINTER SHOW

NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night (OC).—Wanganui exhibitors scored outstanding success in some of the cage bird classes at the winter show of the Taranaki Agricultural and Pastoral Society at New Plymouth, the first to have been held since the war. In the canary classes G. Greener, Wanganui, won the medallion for the best canary in the show and also took the A. H. White Shield for most points in the canary classes. His exhibit in the Yorkshire classes won him the Batten Cup for the best Yorkshire in the show, and in that section he took eight first places in the various classes, as well as other minor placings, and was awarded the diploma of the New Zealand Federation of Cage Bird Clubs, J. Chalk, of Wanganui, won three of the other classes in the Yorkshire section. All the first placings in the Border canary section were won by R. H. Windelburn, Wanganui. He also won the K. M. Boswell Cup for the best exhibit in the section and was awarded the New Plymouth Canary and Cage Bird Club's special prize. J. A. Cook, Wanganui, was a prominent exhibitor in the section for racing homer pigeons and won the special prize for the best adult cock homer in the open classes. He was placed first in six classes, and took also four second prizes and two third prizes, In the same section L. J. Edmonds, Wanganui, won a special prize for the best young hen among the homers and the Budah Trophy for the best young racing homer in distance classes, 80 and 100 miles and over. He was also placed first in one class and took two seconds and a third. Minor placings in the homer pigeon classes were also secured by C. Willacy, Wanganui. R. Richardson, Waitotara, won the North Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association's championship for Old English game bantams in the poultry show. He scored heavily in the individual classes, taking eleven first places and three seconds. He also won the Stratford A. and P. Association's prize for the best game bird, : 't’le or female. Another prize-win-ner in the section was J. Patterson, Wanganui. Two classes for Pekins were won by T. R. Luff, Waitotara, who also took five other minor placings.
