Britain May Do Without Meat From Argentine; Price Too High
LONDON, June 16 (Reed. Bpm). The “Daily Herald” says Britain is prepared to do without Argentine meat, rather than pay excessive prices. The Argentine Government nas been told that any meat delivered to Britain after the end of this month, when the present agreement expires, will be paid for at a .rate of £9O a ton, which is 105 s a ton lower than the present rate and £5O lower than
the price Argentina wants. It is possible the Argentine Government may order a ban on meat shipments to Britain, but the British negotiators in Buenos Aires made it clear that such a manoeuvre would not induce them to raise their offer. They are confident the battle of meat prices already has been won, and that Argentina cannot find any other outlet for her meat.
