FURTHER ADVANCES IN CURE OF HEART DISEASE
LONDON, June 2 (Recd 6 p.m).Further advances in medical treatment of heart disease are announced in the current issue of the British Medical Journal.
A team at Guy’s Hospital, well known for its work on “blue babies*” has now achieved successful results in seven cut of nine patients with a common form of acquired heart disease called mitral stenosis, due to rheumatic fever in early life. The complaint consists of a narrowing ana deformity of one of the heart valves which, the cases described not only has been “stretched” but alfo has been subjected to some degi ee it reconstruction of valve flaps.
