PRIMITIVE FROG IS DISCOVERED ON STEPHENS ISLAND

WELLINGTON. Last Night (PA) The frog Liopelma Hamilton! stated to be the world’s most primitive frog has been rediscovered on Stephens Island by Mr W. H. Dawbin, a lecturer in zoology at Victoria University College,. It is an ancestor of all other frog types existing in the world. It is found only in an area about 50yds. square on the summit of the island, and has not been reported by naturalists for about 25 years. The frog has four fingers on each of its arms and five toes on its feet, there being no trace of webbing. A rigid protection has been imposed on the area where it was rediscovered, and zoologists expect to add largely to their knowledge of the species by a first-hand study.
