CARNEGIE SELECTED FOR CITY HANDICAP AT NAPIER PARK MEETING

Following on after the Poverty Bay meeting, the Napier Park Racing Club’s fixture today and Monday will give a good "line” on the Hawke’s Bay gathering later in the month. Fields are of good dimensions save in t-.<i only cross-country event, the Napier Hack Steeples, in which there are only four engaged, three of them recent winners. The totalisator double will be on the City Handicap, run over a mile and. a-quarter, and the Marewa Hack Handicap, over a mile. In the main event the topweight, Carnegie, has the class, but he should meet with stout opposition from Phanion and Tilting. A large field will line up for the Marewa Hack Handicap, in which Frond, second at Woodville and rather unlucky at Otaki, may get on the winning list again. Best of the others may be Master Modereen and High Profit. A useful lot of sprinters will contest the seven-furlong Flying Handicap, and the chances of Beau Coeur, Demure and Destination may make most appeal. In the Napier Hack Steeplechase Sir Raleigh appears the logical favourite, but ’Bay supporters may be loyal to The Scotchman.
