CUTFIELD HEADS FIELD IN QUALIFYING ROUNDS AT VETERANS’ GOLF

The W’anganqi Golf Club’s annual veterans' tournament —for players of 55 years and over—was opened on the Belmont course yesterday and was favoured by fine weather. Two qualifying rounds were played, competitors playing on their handicaps. The qualifiers were headed by G. E. Cutfield (14) with a nett 115, and A. Kellick (8) with a similar score. Cutfield headed the list on the countback. The first 16 best scorers qualified for the Veterans’ Handicap, which will be decided on match play. The first and second rounds will be played today. Good entries have been received for the event and some good golf was witnessed yesterday. The Diehards’ Trophy for the player over 65 years of age returning the best nett scores in the qualifying rounds was won by L. E. Bassett with an aggregate of 115. The trophy for the best nett score was won by G. E. Cutfield. The following were the qualifiers
