PANTHER ESCAPES ON SHIP, WOMAN AND TWO CREW MEMBERS INJURED

BANGKOK, May 4 (Recd 7 pm).— An American woman wild animal dealer and two Chinese crew members were injured when a panther broke loose aboard a Norwegian ship, the Brattheim, bound from Bangkok to Singapore. Ono Chinese crewman was clawed severely in the abdomen and is now in the Bangkok Hospital in a critical condition. The animal dealer, Genevieve Cuprys, aged 26, escaped with a badly slashed arm and contusions to the head and shoulders and back. The panther broke loose from a wooden cage and terrorised the ship for two hours. The Bratt heims captain returned to port and summoned wild animal handlers while the terrified panther cowered below decks in the scullery. The animal handlers, armed with shotguns, blasted the panther to death at the port side.— Reuter.
