FARMERS’ TRADING CO. SETS NEW RECORD IN TURNOVER
AUCKLAND, Last Night (FA>.— Sales by the Farmers’ Trading Co., Ltd., during the year ended March 31, attained a new record at. more than £5,000,000, according to a preliminary announcement by the company. The actual figure of £5.072,043 shows an increase of 9.78 per cent, over the record for the previous year. Since the end of the war the turnover of the company has shown rapid expansion, rising every year to a fresh peak. During the 12 months to March 31, 1946. sales totalled £3,174,410, and two years later had risen by more than £1.000,000 to £4.294.772. In the last normal pre-war trading year of 1938, the turnover stood at £2,002,883. The company controls tarcr.. est. merchandising business in New Zealand and. in addition to the main Auckland store, has 70 branches and operates 11 factories which produce merchandise for the company. The number of employees totals approximately 2000. The company’s accounts for the year ended March 31, will be submitted next month.
