1400 WATERSIDERS IN BRISBANE ON STRIKE

BRISBANE, March 23 (Recd 7.40 pm).—Despite the threat of Federal intervention 1400 Brisbane watersiders again refused work today. They told the Stevedoring Board they would not offer for work until the suspension on three men was lifted. The Communist secretary of the Brisbane watersiders, E. C. Englart, claimed the watersiders were not on strike, but hadtbeen locked out. Thirteen of 23 ships in the harbour are affected. The Federal Cabinet today discussed the possibility of intervention by imposing the penal clauses of the Crimes Act.
