Commission To Inquire Into Maori Leases
WELLINGTON, Last Night (PA).— The appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into and report upon claims preferred by certain Maori claiments concerning payment of certain moneys by the Aotea District Maori Land Board in respect of the West Taupo timber lands, Tarawera and Tataraakina blocks, the Mohaka block, and the Opouturi block, is formally announced in a gazette tonight. The commission consists of Sir Michael Myers, Mr. H. M. Christie, company director, of Wellington, and Mr. R. Ormsby, farmer, of Te Kuiti. The commission is required to report to the Governor-General by June 30, 1950.
