Mother’s Suicide After Attempt To Murder
NEW YORK, Dec. 14.—Lillian Riley, aged 47, beat and stabbed her daughter Lillian, aged 13, today, set fire to their sixth floor flat while the girl lay unconscious on the floor, then leaped to her death from a window. The girl was rescued by the police, who saw flames burst from the flat. She suffered a possible skull fracture and multiple stab wounds about the head. The police said the girl had been beaten with a claw hammer and stabbed and slashed with an icepick and a razor. There was evidence that the mother had poured kerosene about the flat. No motive for the attack and silicide was found.
