EMPLOYEE COMPLETES 21 YEARS’ SERVICE A function was held at the Cascade Brewery on Wednesday evening, when the opportunity was taken to present Mr. George Smith with a hanging mirror and a traditional wooden key, inscribed “Bottling Store, 1928-1949,” to mark the completion of 21 years’ service with the company. The preseritation was made by Mr. J. T. Coutts, on behalf of the staff. Mr Coutts congratulated Mr. Smith on his long record of service and paid a tribute to the conscientious manner in which he had carried out his work. Times were not so good in the early part of Mr. Smith’s association with the brewery as they were nqw, he said. The speaker went on to refer to the expansion of the brewery during the past 21 years and conveyed best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Smith and family.

He concluded by saying that Mr. Smith had a record of service of which he had every reason to feel proud. Messrs J. Thorburn, B. Dawson and J. Nicholson spoke in a similar strain on behalf of the staff. Mr. A. Saba spoke on behalf of the visitors. Replying, Mr. Smith referred to his long and pleasant association with the Cascade Brewery and added that down through the years he had formed many firm friendships. He had always had great workmates, and without their willing and helpful co-oper-ation he would have been unable to carry on. He had enjoyed his work and was pleased to note the progress the brewery had made during the past 21 years. The expansion of the business during that period had been a source of great satisfaction to him. He wished to thank the staff for the gift and expression of esteem and goodwill accompanying it. The gesture of the staff in making him a presentation to mark the completion of his 21 years’ service with the company was very much appreciated, he concluded.
