Note Issue Increases
The increase in the note circulation usually noticeable before Christmas is revealed in the Reserve Bank statement for December 7. On that day the note issue was £55,883.440. compared with £54.050,745 seven days before, an increase of £1.832.695. The sterling funds fell by a further £888,617. The assets and liabilities of the bank as at December 7. with the weekly average of 1939 and 1948, were as follows:
