Shortage Of Sisters At Small Hospitals Acute In Wanganui
“Great difficulty is being experienced in staffing the smaller institutions,” reported the matron (Miss C. M. Buckingham) at yesterday’s meeting of the Wanganui Hospital Board. The matron stated that charge sisters were required at the Hunterville, Strathaven and Ruanui hospitals. Repeated advertisements, application to the Director of the Division of Nursing and the circularising of the midwifery schools had produced no result. “The effort to staff these institutions with relieving sisters from Wanganui is proving a great strain on the staff resources of this hospital and is cause of sisters leaving,’' she added. “The position in regard to the staffing of those institutions is such that I would ask the board to consider the possibility of operating two of these institutions on a subsidised basis."
