HAWERA HORSES WITH LEVIN ENGAGEMENTS
HAWERA. Last Night (Special).— Track conditions at Hawera this morning were dry and fast for the final gallops of local horses engaged at Levin. Among those to impress were Travel King and Robin Glen, who claim Ellerslie engagements, and Lord MannG, Lady Quick, Master McGrath, Short Wave and Brown tyTravel King (Bourne) had a welterweight in the saddle, but he had the edge on Robin Glen (Mills) at. the end of five furlongs the reverse way on the course proper in 1.6-J. Travel King has proved a consistent sprinter and hi£ prospects in the Railway Handicap, in which N. B. Holland is to take the mount, should not be lightly regarded. Robin Glen should easily pay expenses on the trip. Lord Manna (Meynell) and Oerlikon (Rust) ran an easy five furlongs in 1.5 on the plough. Racing has improved Lord Manna's condition and he may now be ready for a prominent showing in the Presidents’ Handicap at Levin on Saturday. It seems apparent that he will fill a place to warrant a trip north for the Auckland Cup. Oerlikon, who is to race at Levin, may be all the better for a race. Goldfort (Meynell) and an unnamed stablemate completed half a mile in 52 2-5. The former badly txyisted a plate when racing prominently at Otaki last week and his defeat should be overlooked. He may soon make amends. Lady Quick (Belsham), a much improved filly, reeled off five furlongs smartly in 1.3. Her holiday prospects appear bright. Lord Pilot (Mills) easily defeated. Odysseus (Bourne) over five furlongs in 1.4 3-5, though the former had a big weight advantage. They are to race at Levin. Master McGrath (Mills) ran half a mile in 49 3-5. He has freshened up nicely since Feilding. Brown Beauty (Belsham) shaded Vanity Fair (Mills) at the end of hall | a mile in 49 4-5. The former Is an improving Sir Beau filly in H. Callahan's stable. Gay Claire (McKenzie), Wisdom (Hart) and Stock Agent (Lyons) were companions over half a mile in 52. All appear in first-rate order. Papawhero (Rust) and Miss Robin (Meynell) traversed half a mile in 51 3-5. Both are engaged at Levin, but the latter may improve with racing. She is a tall and gross filly. Lionne Rouge (George) and a Plato filly (Belsham) ran the same distance iin 53. Winsome Lad (Toki) cleared out from Chief Fox (George) over the concluding stages of six furlongs in 1.17 1-5. Short Wave (Parker) completed a round of solid work by sprinting the last couple of furlongs in 24. He gives every promise of tin early suc» cess. Lucky Plato- (M’lls) was ridden out to complete half a mile in 50i. He looks well. Now Then (Rust) schooled safely over four hurdles, giving a proficient display. White Diamond has been transferred to M. Brooks at Stratford.
