Russia Fails With 43rd. Veto Attempt
NEW YORK, Dec 13 (Recd 8.10 pm) —Russia took her tally of vetoes to 43 in the Security Council today. With the 42nd. she quashed the vote congratulating the Netherlands and Indonesia on the Hague agreement covering Indonesia’s independence. Then she used the 43rd. in an attempt to defeat a proposal for the Indonesian Commission to continue its work, hut this one was not effective. The council president, General McNaughton. of Canada, ruled that, the Soviet veto could not. be retroactive. The Soviet delegate, Tsarapkin, found no means of challenging the ruling so the Commission will remain in existence.
