SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. Mrs C. Thrush was a recent Wanganui visitor to Hawera as the guest ol Mrs G. A. Thompson. Mrs. lan Page (Gisborne), and her three children, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Moye, Heads Road, Wanganui. Members of the Girls’ College teaching staff who are spending the vacation in Wellington are: Miss K. Bagge and Miss D. M. Bennet. Miss Nancy Carter, of the Palmerston North Hospital staff, is spending her annual leave at her home in Gonville. Teachers Entertained Members of the teaching staff ol the Keith Street School were entertained by the headmaster, Mr W. P. Williams, and Mrs Williams at an en joyable afternoon tea party held at the D.I.C. tearooms on Monday. Victoria League Young Contingent The members of the Young Conlin gent of the Victoria League ended its year’s activities with a Christmas party last Thursday, when there were about 40 present. The president, Miss Muriel Burtt, extended a welcome to all. Several musical items were contributed by Miss Noeline Christie, and elocutionary items by Miss Pauline Mitchell. At the conclusion of a most enjoyable evening, good wishes lor a happy Christmas and New Year were expressed by the president. The next itieoting will take place late in Febru 4ry, 1950. Engagement HACKETT —WALLACE. —The engagement is announced of Doreen, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Wallace, Westmere, to Colin Barry, fourth son of Hr. and Mrs. C. Hackett, No. 3 Line, Wanganui East.
