Christmas Party: Dr. Barnardo Homes' Helpers’ League The Annual Box Opening and Xmas party given by the president of the Dr. Barnardo’s Homes Young Helpers League Branch (Mr. A. K. Drew), was most enjoyable. First the children were treated right royally to icecreams, jellies, soft drinks etc., while the adults, many in number, composed mostly of members of the Sanson Women's Institute, strong supporters of the above cause partook of afternoon tea. The boxes were later opened in the presence of all, and together with the Xmas tree collections amounted to £l3/-/-, this amount including 15/from a penny collection box inaugurated in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Drew. The members of the branch were also photographed in beautiful surroundings, which photograph will iater find its way into the Young Helpers Magazine. Letters of thanks were received from headquarters in Wellington, to the three Xmas tree collectors, who had eacn collected over £1 —Barbara Oedersen £3/0/1, Joan Matthews £l/9/3 and Pamela Powell £l/0/3. Peter Sparrow collected 13/-. These three also had boxes which yielded well. The highest individual box holders were Joan Bishop 15/-, Alwyn Matthews 14/6, Josephine Eglinton 14/5, all of Standard 1, a.V Roger Henson 11/5 of Primer 4, followed by 8 others of lesser amounts, but all most creditable. At. the conclusion the secretary (Mr. J. W. Beattie) thanked Mr. and Mrs. Drew and the members of the Sanson W-L for their assistance, also the children for their commendable efforts in a great cause. Rae PoA'ell on behalf of the members of the League, thanked Mrs. Drew and presented her with a boiN quet of roses. Mrs. Drew in reply expressed her very great pleasure at being president in such a worthy cause, and where the members worked so well. The following members were awarded Short Service badges—-Robin Mitchell, William Jones, Wayne and Trevor Harris. SCHOOL BREAK-UP The annual school break-up and prize giving ceremony is to be held on Thursday, December 15 at 2 p.m. It is hoped there will be a good attendance of parents. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE CONCERT The recent concert organised by the Sanson Women’s Institute was well attended, and patrons were provided with excellent entertainment. As a result of the effort Institute funds will benefit quite satisfactorily. The programme was as follws: —Vocal solos !by Mesdames blinn and M. Pearce, elecuionary items by Mrs. J. Lumsden and Miss C. Reid, instrumental items iby . srs. Slinn and Stickler, banjom:.. Jin and violin respectively, part I songs by the Institute Glee Circle, four humorous sketches by the Institute Drama Circle. In addition films I of local interest were shown by Mr. E. H. Riseley. At the conclusion sup- ‘ per was served to the performers by Institute members.

CRICKETERS PREPARE FOR HOLIDAY REP. FIXTURES. Final arrangements for the Hawke Cup elimination match between Rangitikei and Wairarapa to be played at Taihape on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, December 26, 27 and 28, were made by the management committee of the Rangitikei Cricket Association at a meeting in Marton on Monday night. The Taihape sub-association is acting as host and Mr. C. Merrett (Mangaweka) reported on the arrangements made to date. Mr. R. Worker (Marton) and Mr. H. E. B. Newton (Wanganui) are to be approached to act as umpires for the match. The hours of play are from 10.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. with an hour for lunch and 15 minutes for afternoon tea. ’i).e appointment of a manager for the Rangitikei team was left in the hands of the Taihape sub-association. AArrangements were also made for the two rep. fixtures at Marton during | Christmas and New Year. On Tuesday and Wednesday, December 27 and 28 South Rangitikei is to play Hutt Valley District Colts while on Friday and Saturday, December 30 and 31 the same team is to play Wangaui Colts. Mr. J. M. Grant was appointed manage* of the South Rangitikei team for both matches. It was decided to invite the Feilding Association to play the usual Anniversary Day (Monday, January 23? matches with Rangitikei. The A teams are to play in Feilding and the E teams at Marton. Mr. D.
