VOLTAIC IMPRESSES IN GALLOP AT AWAPUNI

PALMERSTON N.. Last Night (Special).—Just on 30 horses from Awapuni will race at Levin on Saturday, and conditions were ideal for this mornings' semi-linals, which took place on the plough and the trial grass, where the going was hard. One of the feature gallops was that of Voltaic over a mile and three furlongs. Voltaic was ridden by G. R. Tattersall and Mesalliance took him along for the first five in 1.12. Then Rescind took over and the pace was cracked on for the last five in 1.3 2-5. Voltaic worked very well and he covered the last mil? in 1.43 and was home smoothly in 38. Voltaic and Mesalliance are to race at Ellerslie and N. B. Holland will ride Voltaic. Other good gallops this morning included a mile by Silver Sam, six furlongs by Diplomacy, and fives by Reflect, and Servile on the grass, a mile by Play tos and Beau form, and five furlongs by Arcara on the plough. Diplomacy was going a shade better than Four Star (W. L. Aitken) at the end of a good six in 1.18. They broke 39 for the first three. Tendril (J. Harris) and Fellah (Clutterbuck) sprinted five in 1.4 1-5. Reflect (M. Hepburn) covered five in 1.2 1-5, and Servile (Hepburn was home well in 37 to cut five out in 1.2 1Jangada (Tattersall) sprinted half a mile in 51. Gold Circuit <W. L. Aitken) and Sweet Seventeen (Hely) took 1.2 4-5 for five, and Legendre (Harris) and Sir Rhodes (Pyne) were home the last three of a mile in 39. Mercury (Clutterbuck) and Young Beau (W. J. Broughton) worked well over half a mile in 51. Croupier’s Song covered four in 51, and Eulogette and Hunting Scholar the last three in 37 2-5. Gallant Bill (Reid), Confetti (Broughton) and Country Scene (L. Hodren) sprinted five in 1.5. ON THE PLOUGH Emerge (M. Thurston) and Ngarobi (J. Gunn) worked kindly over a mile, and so did Playtos (Broughton) and Beauform (K. Holman). Playtos and Beau form were together at the finish after running the last seven in 1.32 2- and the last tnree in 41 3-5. Lord Holland (A. Temperton) and Result (Tattersall) ran their mile in 1.50, the pace being steady throughout. Arcara (B. Wood) and His Lordship (V. J. Sellars) sprinted five in 1.5 2-5 and were home in 39 2-5 over the slower portion of the plough. Offender covered the last four of five in 58. Cable Stitch <M. Andrews) jumped well in a school over six flights of hurdles with Mana-wanui.
