Shock To Mr. Deed
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA) —“li. was a shock to receive this news,” said Mr Deed, when interviewed at hit. home at Otaua tonight. “We always knew we were connected with some notable families in England, but we did not know until recent inquiries were made than we were descended from Edward I and King David of Scotland.’
Mr Deed is married, with three, young children, all boys. His family has been farming at Waiuku for 80 years. His grandfather came to New (Zealand from England in 1865, and Mr Deed's father, who died a few ! months ago, farmed the property for iabout 60 years. Recalling that his grandfather had referred vaguely to the family's genealogy, Mr Deed said little was known about it until the present inquiries were begun after his father’s death. He did not know of any titled relations in England, nor did he know it his family had claims to any estates. I However, his grandfather had left a iletter which referred to unclaimed [property in England. i Mr Deed hopes he Will be able to go to England to investigate these (matters. In the meantime the L’e
family intend to remain on their farm iof 70 acres at Waiuku. Mr Deed is milking 50 cows with the help of his | wife. For many years he has been a‘keen motor-cyclist and an accomplished violinist. These are his only j hobbies.
i “All the Deeds are intensely musical,’’ Mr Deed said. Mr Deed was jborn in the house he now occupies.
