Count Von Luckner Turns Up Again
NEW YORK, Nov. 30 (Reel. 6 pm). —Count Felix von Luckner, commander of the German raider Seadler during World War I, arrived aboard the liner Gripsholm. Luckner, as a demonstration of physical fitness, tore up a tedephone directory. He said he would lecture before youth groups and ask aid for the youth of Germany. He had come on behalf of the European Youth. Federation which was seeking to teach democracy and “bring home to the youth of Europe that America is the birthplace of democracy.” Von Luckner said Hitler condemned him to death during World War II because he refused to denounce the honorary American citizenship granted him by San Francisco, North Da kota and Miami. He evaded arrest and went into hiding in the Hartz mountains.
