PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS. Pedestrian crossings in Huntervilie may just as well not be there, according to an opinion expressed by Traffic Officer W. C. Shaw. This was stated by Mr, T. J. Taylor at a meeting of the Huntervilie Chamber of C.-.*nmerce when the chamber was discussing pedestrian crossings. The chamber has been making inquiries in order to ascertain the legal position with regard to its crossings. As far as Mr. Shaw knew there was only one legal crossing in New Zealand and that was at Lower Hutt, said Mr. Taylor. It was lit up at night and had posts marking it off. The crossings at Huntervilie had no legal standing and the chamber executive thought the best thing would be to have the traffic safety films showfi at Huntervilie, said Mr. Taylor. Mr. Shaw had said that his department was trying to do away with pedestrian crossings altogether. On the motion of Mr. Taylor, the chamber accepted the offer to have the films shown in Iluntervilte. Reporting to the Town Board th# traffic officer said that arrangements had been made with Traffic Officer L>. Rennie to show the films. He said it would be a high-class educational and instructive programme. The films are to be screened in the Huntervilie Town Hall on Tuesday, December 6. JUNIOR NATIONAL PARTY.
