DEMOLITION BEGINS OF DAMAGED PAVILION AT COOK’S GARDENS

Members of the Wanganui Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club began work yesterday afternoon to demolish the top portion of their pavilion at Cook s Gardens which was gutted by fire on Monday morning. By 5.30 p.m. yesterday most of the top storey had been taken down. As permission will have to be obtained from the City Council, ,t is not yet known by the club when a start can be made to repair the pavilion. However, it is expected that the work will be commenced soon. Last night the appeal for funds on behalf of the 14 cyclists who lost their machines had totalled more than £250 Yesterday donations of £5 5s and £5 respectively, were received from Messrs. A. Gooder and F. Casey, both of Auckland. Further funds will be raised by an art union, tickets foi which are now on sale.
