HAWKE CUP ELIMINATION MATCH MAY BE PLAYED AT TAIHAPE

As the last Hawke Cup elimination match between Rangitikei and Wairarapa was played at Masterton on January 19-22, 1946, the Rangitikei Cricket Association decided at its monthly meeting on Tuesday night to invite Wairarapa to play Rangitikei in this season’s elimination fixture, at Taihape. Advice was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council that the winners of the match between Rangitikei and Wairarapa had been allotted the third challenge for the Hawke Cup to be played at New Year. It was agreed to offer Wairarapa December 9, 10, and 12 or 16, 17, and 19 as suitable dates, the game to be played at Taihape. Delegates felt that as Taihape had not been allocated a Hawke Cup elimination match for many years, the sub-association should be given consideration. To give the Rangitikei team a practice before the match it was decided to seek a two-day game with Wanganui at Taihape on December 3 and 4, and in the event of this match falling through to play the annual North v. South Rangitikei fixture on these two dates, at Taihape. On the suggestion of the Taihape sub-association, it was agreed to play a North v. South Rangitikei C match at Marton on December 3, as the Hunterville ground was not available. On the same date Rangitikei B plays Horowhenua B at Levin. No competition matches are to be played in South Rangitikei on December 3 and it was agreed to confine the bracket of club fixtures on November 26 and December 3 to one day, games to be played on November 26, play commencing at 10.30 a.m. The Wanganui Cricket Association sought a match for their touring Colts against South Rangitikei at Marton on December 28 and 29. As Rangitikei already has a match against Hutt Valley Colts at Marton on December 27 and 28, it was agreed to accept a oneday game against Wanganui on December 29, or a two-day game on December 30 and 31, providing no accommodation is required. A request was received from the Karori Cricket Club (Wellington) seeking a match against a Rangitikei team at Marton between December 26 and January 7. Because of a full representative programme around that period the match was regretfully declined. On the suggestion of the selector, Mr. S. Finney, all clubs were asked to nominate up to five players eligible to play representative matches during the season.
