ENGLAND CHOOSES HER EMPIRE GAMES BOXING MANAGER AND FENCERS

LONDON, Nov. 8 (Reed. 6pm).— The Amateur Boxing Association has chosen Harry Mallin, five times Amateur Boxing Association middleweightchampion and the only man in the world to win two Olympic boxing titles, as manager of England’s boxers in the Empire Games. Mallin is still a metropolitan policeman after 30 years. He managed the British Olympic team in Germany in 1936. Mallin's last competitive appearance was in the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924—0 n the occasion of the now notorious “biting" incident. The decision against Mallin was reversed by an appeal jury, who found he had been bitten by his opponent. The England boxing team for the Games will not be announced until after trials at Luton on December 17. England will send five fencers, four men and one woman, for the Empire Games. Charles de Beaumont, honorary secretary of the Amateur Fencing Association, will captain the team and the other men fencers are Rene Paul, Gordon Pilorow and Sergeant. R. J. D. Anderson, of the Royal Marines. The only woman will be Mrs Mary Glen-Haig, who had the distinction of being Olympic finalist last year. She may prove to be the only woman member of a complete England Empire Games team who will fly out to New Zealand. Charles de Beaumont, who is one of London's well-known antique dealers, has captained British Olympic teams and has been three times epee champion. He is the only Englishman who holds the Membre d’Honneur of the International Fencing Organisation. Rene Paul is the elder son of wellknown Professor Paul, and helps his father with the administration side q£ his work. He was in the Olympic team last, year and has twice been senior foil champion. Gordon Pilbrow has competed at. two Olympics and has been three times sabre champion of Great Britain as well as winner of the junior foil and epee. Sergeant.
