BLUE SLIP ON ROAD AT KAURAPAOA MAY COST COUNTY £250

New proposals for dealing with the blue slip on the Kaurspaoa Road to prevent it from becoming a recurring liability would be prepared as a result of the action of the Minister of Works (Mr Semple) i? granting a subsidy of £3 for £l, said the engineer (Mr W. I. Gardiner) at yesterday s meeting of the Waitotara County Council. The engineer said that the area would be drained and the centresection would be bulldozed. At the present time there was a heavily corduroyed road across the slip. This would have to be built up so that it could work heavy machinery on top without endangering the lower area. The question was how much money the county was prepared to spend on the work. Unless the Minister of Works was satisfied with the work and considered that the job was complete the council would get nothing. The whole proposal would have to be approved by the Ministry of Works. In answer to a question, the engineer said that he estimated that the council’s share of the cost would not exceed £250. Appreciation of the generosity of the Minister and the help received from the council was expressed by Cr G. W. Crafar, one of tii3 three settlers whose properties lie bejond the slip. The engineer explained that for every £4 spent by the council the Ministry of Works would pay £3.
