Mrs Raine, Hawera, is visiting Wanganui. Miss M. Samson has returned to Wanganui from Stratford, where she was the guest of her sister, Mrs Walter Fastier. Mrs Hugh Anderson, of Christchurch, arrived in Wanganui yesterday and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mrs Allan Tinker, Victoria Avenue, has returned to Wanganui from a holiday spent in Auckland. Mrs A. C. McLean, The Manse, Nelson Street, left yesterday for Timaru, where she will be the guest of her mother, Mrs Allchurch. Mrs J. Rundle, of Nelson, is visiting Wanganui and is staying at Foster’s Hotel. She will leave on Saturday for Napier. Mrs R. McClymont, Wanganui East, is visiting Timaru for the Presbyterian General Assembty. B.M.S. Gramophone Gioup The British Music Society’s gramophone group met this month at the home of Miss Thea Collier. The works studied were Beethoven’s violin and piano sonata in E flat, op. 12 No. 3. The violin concerto in D op. 35 of Tchaikowski and the Dohnanyi “variations on a nursery tune.’’ Gonville Plunket Fair A splendid array of sewing and other goods stocked the stalls at a sale of work held by the Gonville Plunket sub-branch in the Gonville Town Hall on Saturday. A sponge cake competition judged by Mesdames E. W. E. Carter and J. P. Morrison was won by Mrs T. Rosser. The sum of £7O was raised. There were many entries in the various competitions. Mrs H. D. Robertson, president of the Wanganui Plunket Society, opened the fair. Durie Hill Plunket Effort The sale of work held on Saturday by the Durie Hill sub-branch of the Plunket Society at the home of the president, Mrs A. J. Burtt, was most successful and the sum of £36 was raised. The well-filled stalls were in charge of the following: —Mesdames A. J. Burtt, W. Feeney and Morris (produce); R. L. Dean and R. Price (handwork); A. P. Hall and B. Harris (cakes); W. E. Jagger and G. Jackson (sweets); J. B. Ashcroft and J. A. McFarland (ice-cream): J. Mills and E. Graham (refreshments). Norwegian Ski-er Weds at Lake Tekapo Mr Hans Kavli, the well-known Norwegian ski-er, was married on Friday at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lake Tekapo, to Miss Marie Clare McNeill, who has been a receptionist at the Hermitage, Mount Cook, for some years. The officiating minister was the Rev. W. G. Heerdegen. As Mr and Mrs Kavli left the church a number of prominent climbers and skiers formed an arch of skis. Mr Kavli, who has been in New Zealand a year, won the South Island ski-ing championship at Coronet Peak earlier in the year, and was formerly a member of the Norwegian international ski-ing team and took part in the Olympic Games.
